WARNING!

These are REAL incidents that have happened to people. We choose to place you as the main character so as to show you how easy it is to fall prey to such circumstances. Remember ROLES CHANGE, SKILLS EVOLVE but SCRIPT remains the SAME. So IGNORANCE of the probability of such occurrences ever happening to you is entirely at your own DISCRETION!!!

Dumbfounded and speechless, you pace around each room surveying the extent of your loss as you mentally assess the monetary value of each asset which cumulatively amounts to the upper limit of a 5-figure digit.

You just can’t wrap your mind around how such an occurrence could ever happen owing to the fact that there was no forced entry into your apartment.

The cops you dialed about half an hour ago are yet to land on the crime scene despite your apartment being only a few blocks away from their station making their attempts at extortion for you to send them ‘gas money’ completely unwarranted and uncalled for.

You decide to take matters into your own hands by trying to interrogate your neighbors for any potential witness to your predicament.

Your efforts may have seemed futile had it not been for a hawk-eyed neighbor who saw an unfamiliar face effortlessly gain entry into your apartment sometime in the mid-morning after you had left for work.

He (neighbor) took no caution to this until later on when his suspicion was aroused after he spotted the stranger ferrying electronics out of your apartment which prompted him (neighbor) to question the intruder.

The stranger’s response was that you (owner) had provided him with the keys to your apartment with strict instructions to carry selected defective electronics to have them repaired since you (owner) had no time to run the errand due to your busy schedule.

To further solidify these claims, the stranger produced a key and SMS you (owner) had allegedly sent him. Partially convinced the neighbor let him resume with his ‘duties’

You finally request your neighbor to accompany you to the police station so you could both record an official statement and have him act as an eye witness to the home invasion incident. To your relief, he willingly obliges.

Meanwhile at the police station as you wait your turn at the reception desk, a blood soaked male is dragged through the entrance by 2 burly officers and sent sprawling face first onto the cold cement floor to the bewilderment of all those present at the reception area.

At first glance, one would think that he might have been the unfortunate victim to be in the path of a speeding military tank due to the massive injuries he had sustained. Both his eyes are swollen shut with several gushes on his head that spewed a sufficient amount of blood that eerily coated his battered face.

As he lay there moaning and writhing in agonizing pain, with his busted lips doing very little to conceal the bloody awkward gaps that once held a sufficient number of his upper dental formula and the several shoe imprints present on his tattered and blood soaked t-shirt indicate the possibility of a few fractured ribs.

The sickening state of the injured man gradually draws an aura of sympathy from onlookers but momentarily withdraws once it is discovered that he had been a victim of mob justice due to theft. One of the arresting officers who brought him in further gave a detailed narration that he had been on the receiving end of a blood-thirsty mob for allegedly trying to break into a house while the owner was still inside prompting the occupant to raise the alarm which caused a mob to gather and corner the intruder and beat him to an inch of his life.

It took the intervention of the officers who brought him in that he is still lucky to be alive.

Suddenly, your neighbor who accompanied you yelled in surprise,

“That’s him!” as he pointed to the man sprawled on the floor

“What do you mean?” you ask

“That’s the man that robbed your house today”, he replied

“Are you sure?” you reply

“Am 100 percent sure I could never forget that face”, he replied

This revelation prompted the officers to viciously ‘interrogate’ the man whereby he finally confessed to being a member of a criminal gang that ran a nationwide domestic house-help agency which robbed unsuspecting clients.

He further revealed that the modus operandi of the gang involved a group of about 10 highly trained con women who posed as house helps. When a client procures their services, it initiates a series of calculated moves that involve 3 stages accomplished within the timeframe of 30 days.

The 1st stage requires the ‘house help’ once employed, to gather as much personal information on the target as possible. Such information could range from National ID details, Phone numbers of both relatives & friends, different times of entry and exit…. Etc

The 2nd stage involves the identification of expensive items available in the house and an arrangement of a ready market for them

The 3rd and final stage aka ‘The exit phase’ requires the ‘house help’ to make duplicates of the house keys and also of the containers that may store valuable items.

Once this is done, she is to feign an abrupt death occurrence of a very close relative at her rural home which requires her urgent presence in-order to cater to the funeral arrangements since she is the only one who is employed.

Once granted the opportunity to depart, which most sympathy-filled employers usually do, she is to relay all the gathered ‘intelligence’ back to the agency.

Meanwhile, she is required to maintain a very low profile or is posted to a different area of the country to begin another ‘mission’.

Gradually, all this revelation starts to make sense to you as you recall that your house help also concocted a similar version of the story and ultimately disappeared without a trace.
